How Often You Should Pump

How often a system should be pumped depends on several factors:

  1. The size of the tank.
  2. The number of people using the tank for disposal.
  3. If washing machines, garbage disposals, water softeners, or other household waste and gray-water producing appliances are used.

Most tanks should be pumped from every 1 to 3 years. Pumping combined with a reputable bacteria additive such as CCLS can greatly increase the life of your septic system by aiding in removal of solids from your tank. Solids must be pumped to ensure that they are not carried out into the leachfield where clogging can occur. Clogging can cause a system to fail or function poorly. Common signs of failure include:

  1. High surface or standing water in the leaching area.
  2. Lush vegetation or grass growth.
  3. Odor or slow drainage from household fixtures.
  4. Sewage back-up into the home.

Never, Ever

To keep your system functioning properly you should NEVER:

  1. Allow excess amounts of fat or grease to enter the system.
  2. Use excessive amounts of laundry soap, detergents, bleach or chemical drain cleaners. Large amounts of these chemicals can kill the friendly bacteria that make your system function properly.
  3. Allow trucks or heavy equipment to drive over the septic system or leachfield.
  4. Introduce large amounts of water into the system at one time. Stagger water use such as showers and laundry.

How Your System Works

A septic system works by carrying household wastes through a pipe into the septic tank. The tank prepares the wastes by allowing solids and heavier items to settle while liquids rise to the top for dispersion into the leach or drain field. The leach field consists of trenches, beds or galleries that disperse the liquid through the soil via natural filtration back into the ground water.

Commercial Grease Trap Services

Action King provides regular maintenance to your inside and outside grease traps and drain lines. Our maintenance contracts can prevent problems before they start.

Did you know?

Regular grease trap maintenance would:

  1. Eliminate ODORS
  2. Prevent floor drain and other BACK-UPS
  3. Satisfy municipal sewer authorities
  4. Provide proper disposal of your waste
  5. Reduce repair and maintenance cost from neglect
  6. Help keep your restaurant running smoothly and your crew and customers HAPPY!

In addition to regular grease trap pumping Action King recommends Bio•Rem•E•D as an environmentally safe, granular (powdered) bacteria/enzyme waste digester. It is an industrial strength product for use in grease traps and problem sewer and drains lines. Grease is the single largest problem in waste treatment. It causes odors and stoppages; it congeals with other substances; and it requires specialized treatment. Grease is derived from several sources: kitchen waste, human waste, and interaction of hard water with soap and detergents. For this reason, Bio•Rem•E•D contains several strains of organisms and enzymes to effectively break down the grease and the other forms of sewage.

NOTE: Bio•Rem•E•D is NOT an alternative to regular maintenance! Bio•Rem•E•D is used in conjunction with proper grease trap maintenance.
